For purposes of this listing, the 2009-2010 school year is considered to be from August 1, 2009, through July 31, 2010. In addition to school-related violent deaths, this page provides a sample of school shootings that did not result in death and a sample of other incidents of school-related crime, violence, and crisis situations.
For purposes of this monitoring report, school-related violent deaths are homicides, suicides, or other violent, non-accidental deaths in the United States in which a fatal injury occurs:
1) inside a school, on school property, on or immediately around (and associated with) a school bus, or in the immediate area (and associated with) a K-12 elementary or secondary public, private, or parochial school;
2) on the way to or from a school for a school session;
3) while attending, or on the way to or from, a school-sponsored event;
4) as a clear result of school-related incidents/conflicts, functions, activities, regardless of whether on or off actual school property;

September 14, 2009: Charlotte, NC
A 15-year-old pregnant female student was shot and killed at her school bus stop on the way to school. A 36-year-old male was subsequently a person of interest in the raping and shooting death of the girl, who was his adopted sister.
September 15, 2009: Coral Gables, FL
A 17-year-old high school student was stabbed to death during a fight in a school courtyard around 9:00am.
September 23, 2009: Tyler, TX
A 16-year-old male high school student was arrested after reportedly stabbing a 50-year-old special education teacher in the neck with an edged weapon. The teacher later died after the attack. The student was apprehended by a paraprofessional in the room, taken into the hallway and turned over to a school police officer who was nearby.
September 24, 2009: Chicago, IL
A 16-year-old male high school student was beaten and died on his way home from school. The victim was reportedly pulled into an altercation which was occurring in a vacant lot as he walked home. Reports indicate he was an innocent victim passer-by and had nothing to do with the large fight, which is believed to be gang-related.
September 24, 2009: Mesa, AZ
A 15-year-old male charter high school student was stabbed during a fight and died near a parking garage entrance following a fight in an outdoor corridor of the school. The suspect is allegedly a gang member, according to reports.
September 25, 2009: Tulsa, OK
A 16-year-old male high school student was shot three times in the back of his head, neck and back while walking home after being dropped off at his school bus stop. Police believe gangs may be involved.
October 16, 2009: Conway, SC
A 16-year-old male high school student was shot and killed by a school resource officer following an altercation with the student in which the student allegedly stabbed the officer with a knife. The student had reportedly asked to speak with the officer and was taken into the officer’s school office.
October 30, 2009: Long Beach, CA
A 16-year-old female high school honors student was shot and killed while leaving a high school homecoming game. Police reported the victim was an innocent bystander in the middle of two rival gangs engaged in a conflict.
November 10, 2009: Michigan City, IN
A woman was shot and killed in front of her two children, allegedly by her boyfriend who was the father of the children, at a school bus stop. The suspect later reportedly shot and killed himself. The incident occurred as the woman got out of her car when a school bus with K-5 elementary students arrived at the stop. Students were taken to the school where they met with counselors.
November 20, 2009: Beaumont, TX
A school police officer shot and killed a 26-year-old male who allegedly attacked the officer as the officer attempted to intervene in a disturbance between the male and another individual near an alternative school.
December 15, 2009: Modesto, CA
An adult female, age 43, was shot and killed by police after waving what was described as a meat cleaver while on an elementary school playground near a wing of classrooms around 2:00pm. The female was reportedly hitting and cutting herself in her upper body with the meat cleaver. Teachers were credited with confronting the woman while the children were rushed inside the school, which was placed on lockdown. No students were injured.

A sample of school-related shootings occurring nationwide in the 2009-2010 school year not resulting in death is listed below. It should be noted that this is only a sample and and is not intended to include all of the many incidents involving firearms confiscated but not used, and other weapons possession or use that occur in U.S. schools. List includes individuals shot but not killed and firearms discharged in schools, on school campuses and buses, at school-sponsored events, to and from school involving students, and as a clear result of school-related incidents/conflicts.

August 11, 2009: Charlotte, NC
A 24-year-old private security guard was shot in the chest at the construction site of a new elementary school.
August 25, 2009: Macon, GA
A 13-year-old middle school student was expelled and faced criminal charges in connection with a firearm discharge occurring inside a school classroom.
September 1, 2009: East Rockhill-Perkasie, PA
A 78-year-old male shot himself in an attempted suicide at the entranceway to the high school around 11:00am. No students were said to have observed the shooting, although school was in session
September 8, 2009: Stamford, CT
A 16-year-old male was arrested for discharging a firearm after a group of students were allegedly coming after him in front of the charter high school. The shot reportedly ricocheted off a school bus. Police later accused school officials of delaying a call to police on the incident by 35 minutes.
September 14, 2009: Grand Rapids, MI
A 16-year-old male high school student was arrested after firing a “warning shot” outside of the school after 20 rival gang members were approaching him in front of the school around 3:10pm.
September 16, 2009: Glen Allen, VA
A 16-year-old male student was arrested for firing shots in a high school parking lot around 12:30pm. No one was injured.
September 16, 2009: Antioch, CA
A male high school student was shot twice near the school around 8:30am. He was walking to the school with friends when an altercation occurred with individuals in a car with loud music which pulled up near the victim. The suspect reportedly is a non-student.
September 18, 2009: Tacoma, WA
Shots were fired in the parking lot during a high school football game. Police found two shell casings in the parking. No one was injured.
September 25, 2009: Kansas City, MO
A 13-year-old student was injured when nine shots were fired at the building he was in at the Afrikan-Centered Collegium Campus. Three shots reportedly hit the building.
October 8, 2009: Southold, NY
An 18-year-old high school student was struck in the head by a bullet when a shot fired from outside the school went through his classroom window. Reports indicate he received minor injuries. Police reportedly took a 28-year-old male in custody from the community.
October 9, 2009: Pittsburgh, PA
A 17-year-old male high school student was the target of a shooting outside the school after dismissal. A car reportedly pulled up to the corner where he was standing, and eight shots were fired by someone in the car. The intended victim was not struck.
October 9, 2009: Washington, DC
A 21-year-old male was shot in the arm and leg near the gates to the high school as he was leaving the homecoming game around 11:30pm.
October 13, 2009: Los Angeles, CA
A 16-year-old female high school student was shot in the hip while walking home about two blocks from the school. Police believe she was caught in the crossfire of shots from rival gangs.
October 13, 2009: Salinas, CA
A 49-year-old male elementary school custodian was shot in the upper torso around 6:30am. No students were present or involved. School was canceled for the day. Police were investigating if robbery was a motive and if it was gang-related, according to reports.
October 15, 2009: North Las Vegas, NV
Three male high school students were injured during a conflict several blocks from the school. One student was hit with a heavy object, another was stabbed, and the third was shot.
October 19, 2009: North St. Louis, MO
A 17-year-old male high school student was shot and ran back into the school. His injuries were not life threatening according to reports.
October 23, 2009: Norfolk, VA
A juvenile male was shot in the leg around 9:50pm after a high school football game.
November 5, 2009: Philadelphia, PA
A 17-year-old student was shot in the back of the head, allegedly by a 15-year-old student, on board a school bus around 8:00am. The victim was originally in critical, and later stable, condition at the hospital. The suspect fled the bus but was captured not far from incident.
November 9, 2009: Kansas City, MO
Three girls were shot and an adult male grazed by a bullet in a neighborhood shooting which followed a fight inside a high school involving four to five students. One student and a security officer suffered minor injuries as a result of the fight in the school, according to reports.
November 10, 2009: Tulsa, OK
Elementary school students and staff were in the line of fire as one man was killed and another injured in a shooting which occurred around 4:00pm as students and staff were exiting the school. No one was injured.
November 13, 2009: Las Vegas, NV
Two 7-year-old second graders were involved in a shooting incident at a school bus stop. One fired a 9mm gun with the bullet striking an unoccupied car along the road.
November 16, 2009: Dallas, TX
A 52-year-old Dallas school maintenance employee who was visiting an elementary school accidentally shot himself in the upper leg while the custodian’s office. He was transported by an ambulance. The male reportedly was on leave and being recommended for termination from his job, according to reports.
November 17, 2009: Boston, MA
A 22-year-old male was shot while playing basketball in an elementary school gym which serves as an after-school community center. The male ran outside after being shot. The incident was believed to be gang-related.
November 20, 2009: Harrisburg, PA
An unidentified male from out of town was shot to death in his car outside of an elementary school around 6:15pm. No students were involved.
November 20, 2009: Dallas, TX
A school police officer fired a shot but missed a suspect who reportedly made a threatening move toward the officer when school police came upon a nighttime burglary at an elementary school.
November 21, 2009: Austin, TX
A 17-year-old male high school student was arrested for shooting at a car with a rifle around 5:00pm just outside of his high school campus. No one was injured.
November 22, 2009: Miami, FL
A middle school was locked down after shots were fired at police who were near the school in connection with a domestic dispute in the neighborhood. No one at the school was injured.
November 22, 2009: New York, NY
A 15-year-old female high school student from the Bronx was struck in the head by a stray bullet while walking home from school around 3:45pm. The student was described as an innocent victim caught in the middle of a dispute.
November 24, 2009: Detroit, MI
A male, believed to be around 20 years old, was shot by another male on the property of a city high school around 3:00pm.
December 2, 2009: Brockton, MA
A 17-year-old male former student was shot during a basketball try-out at a high school around 5:00pm. One witness reported hearing multiple shots.
December 3, 2009: Yakima, WA
Middle school students were caught in the middle of gunfire by two gang members firing when rival gang members walked by as the students were walking home from school. One male was wounded with a gunshot injury to the arm.
December 11, 2009: Shreveport, LA
An 18-year-old female high school student was shot multiple times outside of the high school, allegedly by a male former student from the school. The school was put on lockdown and by around 1:30pm, only a few students reportedly remained at the school.
January 7, 2010: Phoenix, AZ
Two 19-year students were shot, and a 10-year-old was hit by a bullet, outside of a Phoenix charter school at dismissal. A 16-year-old former student was arrested. Police reportedly believe the incident was gang-related.

August 19, 2009: Lakeville, IN
A State Police SWAT team assembled in a junior-senior high school parking lot, while the school was held on lockdown, in connection with police activity involving a homicide in the nearby community.
August 21, 2009: Cleveland, TN
An elementary school was put into a precautionary lockdown due to shooting nearby the school. No incident occurred at the school.
August 24, 2009: San Mateo, CA
A 17-year-old male high school student detonated two pipe bombs in a hallway near the library. The male had a total of 10 pipe bombs, a sword, and a chainsaw, according to reports. A 35-year-old male teacher tackled the student and was credited with likely saving lives at the school. Police officers took the student into custody.
August 27, 2009: Atlanta, GA
A 23-year-old male was arrested for hijacking a school bus with 13 students (grades 7-12 school) and a bus driver on board. He reportedly climbed in the bus by a window, took control of the bus, and then left the bus driverless as it went down a hill. Two students and the bus driver reportedly suffered minor injuries.
September 1, 2009: Yazoo City, MS
A 17-year-old male high school student was credited with saving the lives of 22 students after he wrestled a .380-caliber semi-automatic gun away from a 14-year-old female student who was threatening other students aboard the bus who she claimed has been harassing her.
September 8, 2009: Mount Prospect, IL
Police were seeking a suspect who placed a small homemade improvised explosive device in a park adjoining the school.
September 8, 2009: La Habra, CA
A high school was briefly put on lockdown while school officials and police searched for the person who stabbed a 17-year-old student around 7:40am on the grounds of the school. No suspects were immediately apprehended.
September 11, 2009: Owosso, MI
Schools were locked down after a 63-year-old abortion protester was gunned down in a drive-by shooting in the area of the high school. School was in session but no students were involved or injured in the shooting.
September 11, 2009: Tulsa, OK
A fight broke out at a high school football game resulting in three arrests and several injuries. School officials subsequently beefed up security at games the following week including requiring student IDs, metal detection and increased security involvement.
September 15, 2009: Bolingbrook, IL
A 16-year-old student was stabbed several times during a gang-related altercation at his high school. The male reportedly fled the building and was picked up by police and taken to the hospital.
September 17, 2009: Los Angeles, CA
A 16-year-old high school student was stabbed in his hip several blocks from the school around 7:25am. Police were searching for the suspect.
September 17, 2009: Bridgeton, NJ
Two students, ages 16 and 17, were stabbed during an altercation after they exited the school bus around 3:15pm. One was reportedly stabbed in the back and the other twice in the chest.
September 17, 2009: Delray Beach, FL
A riot broke out a high school football game. School police called in other local police for assistance. Four arrests were made and police reportedly used Tasers and pepper spray to break up some of the fighters.
September 18, 2009: Manatee County, FL
Security was heightened at high school football games following the shooting death of two students in the community in unrelated incidents in the prior weeks. Additional police officers and metal detectors reportedly would be used at the games.
September 21, 2009: Greenville, MS
Six high school students were arrested in connection with a fight on campus stemming from a weekend conflict. The school was put on lockdown while police searched for weapons, according to reports. No weapons were found.
September 21, 2009: Longwood, FL
A private school went into lockdown after a 200-pound bear was going through its garbage bin on campus. Deputies and Wildlife officials responded.
September 22, 2009: York, PA
An elementary school went into lockdown as a man with a BB gun was around the school shooting cats that were trying to kill birds he raised for a living. Police received reports of a man with a gun outside the school and the school went into a lockdown, with anxious parents outside according to reports.
September 22, 2009: Miami, FL
A suspicious box outside the front door of an elementary school sent the school into lockdown as a police bomb squad robot was called in to the scene. Students were later dismissed from an alternate location.
September 24, 2009: Weirton, WV
Two 19-year-old high school seniors were arrested in connection with an alleged plot involving a suicide note, bomb-making materials, and instructions on how to make bombs. Police became alerted to the threat when students started receiving text messages that something “big” going to happen at the school.
September 25, 2009: Virginia Beach, VA
A fight between two students at a high school escalated into a large scale fight resulting in police arresting 17 students.
September 25, 2009: Houston, TX
A high school was locked down at around 9:40am for approximately three hours due to assault rifle gunfire in the surrounding community. A suspect was later arrested.
September 28, 2009: Palisades, CO
An 18-year-old male who was enrolled at a high school was arrested for an alleged plot to attack the school with weapons and explosives.
September 29, 2009: Allentown, PA
Three high school students were stabbing victims following a fight involving 30 people which occurred as students were walking home from the school.
September 29, 2009: Corpus Christi: TX
A 16-year-old reported fired 15 shots at a 21-year-old victim, possibly in a case of mistaken identity, sending area schools into a lockdown most of the afternoon. The shooting itself did not involve students, according to reports.
September 30, 2009: Princeton, MN
A suspicious device was found at the high school, post office and public utility building. The school district closed all three district schools, sending 3,500 students home.
September 30, 2009: Oklahoma City, OK
A high school was briefly locked down while police searched for a gunman who fired shots at a car at a nearby car wash. The owner of the car, who was not a student, went to the school after the shots were fired at his car.
September 30, 2009: Roanoke, VA
A 16-year-old high school student will be charged for having an explosive device at the school. School officials found an object containing firecrackers and metal objects inside an Axe body spray can during a search of the student. A portion of the school was closed and the Virginia State Police bomb squad was called as a precaution. The materials were reportedly determined to be explosive.
September 30, 2009: Anchorage, AK
Two elementary schools were briefly put into lockdown in West Anchorage due to a police pursuit of a suspect in a stolen car in the community. A suspect was arrested and charged with multiple felony counts, according to reports.
October 1, 2009: Boston, MA
Three schools were locked down following gunshots in the community as students were arriving at school in the morning. No students were injured.
October 2, 2009: Tulsa, OK
Police arrested 11 high school students after fights broke out about noon in a school hallway and commons area where students eat lunch.
October 2, 2009: Nashville, TN
Police arrested six students after two major gang-related fights this week at a high school. Police beefed up presence on campus and at an evening football game following the conflicts.
October 2, 2009: Washington, DC
DC Public Schools lost 300 security guards after the private security company used by the district went out of business overnight.
October 5, 2009: Cleveland, OH
The Plain Dealer reported Cleveland Police are stationing ten officers a day to assist school security and administrators with dismissal at one high school due to gang activity. A pep rally was cancelled and a homecoming dance postponed due to conflicts.
October 6, 2009: Jackson, MS
One of three males fleeing from a car stopped by police ran into an elementary school, where officers caught him. The school went into a lockdown which was later lifted and students were released.
October 6, 2009: Lakeland, FL
A middle school went into lockdown after two suspects fled from a police traffic stop in the area.
October 7, 2009: Evansville, IN
Two women, one the mother of a student, were arrested at a middle school after shouting obscenities at the principal, refusing to leave the grounds, and resisting arrest by a police officer. Police later found three pills and $1,600 in the bra of one of the women.
October 7, 2009: Ft. Wayne, IN
Two guns, one a handgun and the other a rifle, were found in the trunk of a car of a high school student after school officials received a tip the male was involved in a threat with a student at another school. School and police officials acted quickly and four people were taken into custody for questioning.
October 8, 2009: San Antonio, TX
One high school and one middle school went into lockdown after a male reportedly fired shots after entering an area apartment building leasing office demanding money. The male was caught by police and the lockdown subsequently lifted.
October 8, 2009: Richmond, KY
A 17-year-old student was stabbed by a fellow student in a classroom at his high school. The victim was hospitalized and the suspect arrested.
October 12, 2009: Marietta, GA
Two schools were put into a lockdown as a precautionary measure after three males fired shots at a man getting into his car in the area.
October 13, 2009: Newport News, Va
A 19-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the leg was found in the parking lot of an elementary school. The incident reportedly happened at a nearby convenience store and the victim made his way to the school lot. The school went into lockdown as a precaution.
October 15, 2009: Milford, CT
A 17-year-old male high school student was arrested for a posting on Facebook threatening to bring a gun to school and shoot up the school.
October 16, 2009: Bayonne, NJ
Two high school students were stabbed during an altercation after school which involved up to 30 people.
October 20, 2009: Monroe, NY
A 15-year-old male was taken into custody and held in a psychiatric facility for allegedly plotting an attack on his former high school. Police reportedly found four bottles filled with gasoline, a torch, machete, black trench coat, and three propane tanks.
October 22, 2009: Manchester, NH
Two schools were put on a lockdown and then later evacuated due to a shooting in the community.
October 23, 2009: Franklin, NJ
Following a conflict between a police officer and student returning into a high school homecoming dance, a large altercation broke out. Additional police responded, police used pepper spray, five police officers were injured, and a total of 12 individuals, including students and parents, were arrested.
October 24, 2009: Richmond, CA
A 15-year-old female high school student was gang-raped by as many as 10 individuals while as many as 20 onlookers stood by and did not call police.
October 30, 2009: Toledo, OH
Three schools were put on lockdown after a fatal shooting in the neighborhood.
November 4, 2009: Yakima, WA
Three schools went into lockdown following a shooting which started at a neighborhood car wash
November 4, 2009: Birmingham, AL
A 14-year-old middle school student was arrested for bringing an unloaded shotgun into the school, hiding it in a bathroom ceiling, and then later carrying it on himself with the gun hidden in his pants leg.
November 5, 2009: Chicago, IL
A food fight at a middle school resulted in the arrest of 25 students.
November 5, 2009: Arlington, WA
A high school was put on lockdown after gunfire from the community later reported to be someone taking target practice.
November 5, 2009: Killeen, TX
Nine schools were locked down for five hours following a shooting rampage by a gunman at Fort Hood Army base. Students and staff, along with a number of parents who went to pick up their children, remained in windowless areas of the school. School staff scrambled for food, serving students dinner at the school.
November 10, 2009: Portland, OR
Hundreds of elementary students were evacuated from a three-alarm fire. No students were reported as injured. Credit was given to practice drills for students safely getting out. Two portions of the roof reportedly collapsed.
November 10, 2009: Baltimore, MD
A high school student was attacked by six individuals, five of them non-students, and stabbed in the upper back while in the school cafeteria around 1:30pm.
November 10, 2009: Pine Plains, NY
A 42-year-old male took a middle school principal hostage at a combined middle and high school around the start of school about 8:00am. The incident was contained in one classroom. The suspect eventually surrendered to police without anyone harmed. Students and staff were locked down during the incident. Police searched room-by-room after the suspect was removed from the building. Parents were directed to a nearby restaurant parking lot several blocks away during the incident. The male reportedly brought a disassembled shotgun into the school, signed in the office as required, asked to use the restroom, and reassembled the gun in the restroom before taking the principal hostage. The male reportedly did this to get media attention about his concerns of wrongful treatment of military personnel.
November 11, 2009: Jackson, MS
A burglar being pursued by police for an incident in a surrounding community subdivision ran into an elementary school around 8:45am. A teacher and student teacher stopped the male and made him leave. The school temporarily went into lockdown and a message was sent out to parents.
November 14, 2009: San Diego, CA
A 19-year-old male slashed a victim he engaged in a fight with during a high school homecoming football game. The two engaged in a conflict at the game and then took the conflict into the community where the stabbing occurred.
November 16, 2009: Pocatello, ID
A high school was locked down for over two hours in connection with a threat to a student by a parent. Police evacuated students classroom by classroom. No one was injured. Some parents and students expressed frustrations about not knowing what was going on and the school’s office phone lines were reportedly overloaded.
November 16, 2009: Rogersville, TN
A high school was locked down about 20 minutes prior to dismissal after police received a tip of a cell phone text message being circulated which indicated there would be a shooting at dismissal. Police and school officials later indicated they never saw the text and it could have been a hoax.
November 19, 2009: Redwood City, CA
A 16-year-old boy male student was beaten unconscious, suffering a concussion and broken nose, by 10 to 15 students near the school’s football field around 9:45am in what police described as a gang-related attack.
November 20, 2009: Washington, DC
A 17-year-old student was stabbed in the neck during a fight around 1:15pm at a charter high school.
November 20, 2009: Fairfield, AL
A 67-year-old woman picking up a middle school student at dismissal struck nine students and one adult after accidentally hitting the gas instead of the break on her car. The adult later underwent surgery but died.
November 20, 2009: Milwaukee, WI
Three police officers and one school security officer were assaulted during a fight in the parking lot of a high school. Seven juveniles and one adult were arrested.
November 23, 2009: Overlea, MD
Two high school females were taken into custody following a fight where a police officer used pepper spray to break up the altercation around 7:45am. Five other students reportedly complained of feeling ill from the spray.
November 24, 2009: Concord, NH
Over 500 people were evacuated from a high school after a detailed bomb threat was written on a bathroom wall. The building was searched by school and police officials. Those evacuated went to a nearby middle school. No bomb was found.
November 24, 2009: Beloit, WI
An elementary school was put into lockdown after a vehicle crashed in the parking lot following a shooting of the occupants which originated in the neighborhood.
November 29, 2009: Anchorage, AK
A 16-year-old male high school student was arrested in connection with having two pipe bombs and an improvised grenade at home. Police indicated he had them while on school grounds. They were discovered by his parent who contacted police.
December 1, 2009: Schenectady, NY
A 16-year-old male high school student was allegedly stabbed in the leg with a kitchen knife by an 18-year-old male student while they were in the school hallway. The school went into a lockdown for approximately one and one-half hours.
December 3, 2009: Memphis, TN
Two female high school students reportedly received texted threats in connection with retaliation for a homicide which occurred in the community.
December 3, 2009: Oakland, CA
A female high school student allegedly slashed a male student in the face and upper body with a box cutter during an altercation in a classroom.
December 3, 2009: Gary, IN
A parent was arrested for allegedly attacking a fourth-grade teacher, resulting in an injury to her head from a stapler, after entering the elementary school through an unlocked rear door. The parent earlier canceled an appointment with the principal and a district administrator to address her complaint about the teacher’s student disciplinary actions.

Ten students were suspended as several incidents altercations occurred between African-American and Asian students from a Philadelphia high school.

Nine students were reportedly arrested following a large fight at a Charlotte high school.
December 10, 2009: El Cerrito, CA
A 14-year-old boy allegedly raped a 12-year-old girl in a middle school stairwell during class time around 2:40pm. The male was subsequently charged with rape.
December 11, 2009: Bridgewater, NJ
A 16-year-old high school student was charged with attempted murder, possession of explosives, and other charges after police reported finding bomb-making instructions, explosives, and ammunition at this home. Another student told the school resource officer (SRO) the male had told him of his plan, “…to commit a Columbine” at the school. The school was closed for the day as police and school officials searched the building.
December 11, 2009: Rockford, IL
Two male high school students, brothers at the same school, were arrested for having guns at the school. One of the students, a 16-year-old, was wearing a bulletproof vest. Another student told a school administrator this 16-year-old student was wearing a vest and might have a gun.

Eleven students were arrested for participating in a fight at a high school which reportedly involved as many as 60 student participants.
December 15, 2009: Cincinnati, OH
A police officer suffered bruises and cuts after being attacked by 30 students while escorting two fighters back inside the building following a basketball game.
January 5, 2010: Tacoma, WA
All 57 schools in the Tacoma School District were locked down for 90 minutes after a middle school student reportedly said he had a gun and threatened gang-related violence at his school and others in the district. The middle school stayed locked down all day.
January 6, 2010: Cocoa, FL
A 17-year-old male high school student was arrested after police reportedly found an AK-47 assault rifle and two magazines with ammunition in a car parked at Cocoa High School.
