For purposes of this listing, the 2005-2006 school year is considered to be from August 1, 2005, through July 31, 2006. In addition to school-related violent deaths, this page provides a sample of school shootings that did not result in death and a sample of other incidents of school-related crime, violence, and crisis situations.
For purposes of this monitoring report, school-related violent deaths are homicides, suicides, or other violent, non-accidental deaths in the United States in which a fatal injury occurs:
1) inside a school, on school property, on or immediately around (and associated with) a school bus, or in the immediate area (and associated with) a K-12 elementary or secondary public, private, or parochial school;
2) on the way to or from a school for a school session;
3) while attending, or on the way to or from, a school-sponsored event;
4) as a clear result of school-related incidents/conflicts, functions, activities, regardless of whether on or off actual school property;

August 19, 2005: Miami, FL
A 17-year-old male high school student was shot and killed in a stadium parking lot following an exhibition high school football game. Police later arrested a 19-year-old male suspect. Reports indicate the incident stemmed from earlier conflicts and/or threats.
August 29, 2005: West Valley City, UT
A 21-year-old male was arrested and subsequently charged for vehicular homicide investigation in the death of a 15-year-old male high school student. The suspect was reportedly speeding through the high school parking lot around 2:30pm and threw at glass bottle at a student. The suspect allegedly left the area, made an abrupt U-turn, returned, and according to witnesses intentionally swerved toward the 15-year-old male, who was straddling a bike, and hit him. The victim was reportedly thrown about 100 feet. The victim sped off from the area with a cracked windshield and was subsequently arrested by police when found hiding in a window well of a nearby house from where the car was abandoned.
September 8, 2005: Richmond, CA
A high school custodian who was unlocking the school doors around 6:00am found the dead body of a 28-year-old male on the campus. The victim, who was reportedly paroled less than 24 hours prior to his death, had been shot to death. Police said it was not a “body dump” and appeared to have happened at the school. The body was removed before students arrived but the crime scene was not cleared until shortly after school opened, according to reports. School officials diverted students from the crime scene, directed students to focus on their classwork, and provided two school psychologists for counseling, as needed.
September 23, 2005: Sandy Spring, MD
A 15-year-old female student was stabbed and subsequently died during a fight between two groups of females around 8:30pm in a high school parking lot following a school football game. The incident reported stemmed from an ongoing conflict for multiple weeks over one girl spitting at the other.
September 30, 2005: New York, NY
Four students suffered stab wounds and a 15-year-old male was stabbed to death in a fight with another group of students in front of a Manhattan high school. The 15-year-old died from a massive wound to his stomach according to reports.
October 7, 2005: Richardson, TX
A 17-year-old male high school student was shot and killed after fights erupted between two groups in a mall parking lot following a high school football game. The fights reportedly were a continuation from a confrontation which started at the high school after the game. Shots were fired and the victim, an innocent bystander, was killed while five others were also shot. Nine people were shot after three separate football games that evening, with the 17-year-old victim being the only one who died.
October 26, 2005: Moulton, AL
A 55-year-old female first grade teacher was beaten and subsequently died due to irreversible brain damage. The incident occurred at an educational facility used during the day for Head Start and in the evening for adult education classes, where the teacher worked in addition to her elementary school position. A 15-year-old, eighth-grade male high school student was arrested and charged for murder. Police believe the suspect beat the victim unconscious with his fists before going through her purse and stealing money. The victim was reportedly working alone in the facility doing administrative work when the attack occurred between 4:00pm and 5:00pm.
October 27, 2005: Fresno, CA
A 37-year-old male was shot and killed near the staff parking lot of an elementary school. The victim was a parent at the school. The school was put on lockdown. Police reported that the incident was gang-related to a non-school matter involving the victim.
October 27, 2005: San Leandro, CA
A 14-year-old female high school student was shot three times in the back and killed while walking to school just blocks away from her high school. A male, believed to be a non-student between 16 and 18 years old, allegedly got out of a car, shot the 14-year-old in the back, and then killed himself in an apparent murder-suicide. Police confirmed the two knew each other.
November 2, 2005: Houston, TX
A 16-year-old male high school student was shot in the head while standing at a subdivision area home on his way home from school around 3:45pm and died the next day. Police initially believed there may have been two groups waiting for a gang-related fight when three shots were fired from a car driving by. School officials planned beefed up security and counselors at the school following rumors of possible retaliation.
November 8, 2005: Jacksboro, TN
A 15-year-old male high school freshman shot and killed an assistant principal. The principal and another assistant were also shot and hospitalized during the incident.
November 16, 2005: San Antonio, TX
A school police officer shot and killed an 18-year-old male who allegedly attempted to run down the officer as he attempted to stop the suspect and another male from stealing a car in a middle school parking lot.
November 17, 2005: Tampa, FL
A 17-year-old male high school senior was shot to death after school in a McDonald’s parking lot across the street from his high school. Three other teens, ages 15, 16, and 19, were shot and treated at a hospital. The shots were fired from a car after fistfights broke out in the restaurant parking lot. An 18-year-old was arrested the next day. Some said the fighting was gang-related, but authorities described it as neighborhood and/or territorial disputes.
December 6, 2005: Garden Grove, CA
A 16-year-old male high school student was beaten and then shot in the chest with one gunshot, and later died at the hospital. The victim reportedly was involved in a fight around 3:00pm near a path connecting a street to the school’s athletic fields. Reports indicate gang members jumped in to assist the victim, who was being beaten, when a member of the original group pulled a gun and shot the victim. Police subsequently arrested six alleged gang members in connection with the murder.
December 16, 2005: New York, NY
A 56-year-old female school safety agent died of a heart attack after being assaulted by a 12-year-old female middle school student. The student was reportedly standing in line at a school dance when the safety agent asked her to leave at the direction of the principal, who wanted her removed due to an incident earlier in the day at school. Police said a fight broke out and the girl struck the safety agent, and the girl was restrained with the help of two additional school safety agents.
January 13, 2006: Longwood, FL
A 15-year-old male middle school student was shot by the SWAT team after pulling out a gun out in class, briefly taking another student hostage, and running through the school. The student, who police said was suicidal and threatening to kill himself, was isolated in a restroom where he was shot by the SWAT team after he reportedly raised the gun at a deputy. The gun was later found to be a pellet gun fashioned after a 9mm handgun, which is what the police later reported as believing what he actually had in his possession. The 15-year-old died from his injuries the next day, according to reports.
January 13, 2006: Pinson, AL
A 17-year-old male high school junior was shot in the neck and groin during a fight with a 20-year-old male high school senior in a high school parking lot after a high school basketball game. Deputies arrested the 20-year-old male in the parking lot after the incident.
January 30, 2006: Great Falls, MT
A 16-year-old male high school student walked off his bus, into a school restroom, and fatally shot himself in the head around 8:00am. The principal, who was nearby, ran to the restroom and found the body. Police report that the male suffered a single self-inflicted gunshot to his head from a large-caliber weapon.
March 23, 2006: Milwaukee, WI
A 15-year-old male 7th-grade middle school was beaten to death at a bus stop a couple blocks from his school while awaiting a bus around 1:50pm. The victim had received an early release for a doctor’s appointment.
May 5, 2006: Miramar, FL
A 19-year-old male was shot in the head with a single gunshot and died following a fight outside of a charter high school dance around 11:35pm.
May 18, 2006: Conway, SC
An 18-year-old female high school student was stabbed to death in a middle school parking lot on a complex shared by the high school and middle school. A 24-year-old male was arrested shortly after the stabbing. The incident occurred around 8:00am as students were arriving at school. Initial reports indicate the two may have had some type of dating relationship.
June 5, 2006: Los Angeles, CA
A 17-year-old male high school student was shot and killed in a high school parking lot as school dismissed around 3:00pm. The victim was reportedly shot by a gang member after two males approached the victim’s younger brother, called the name of a gang, and tried to rob the victim’s younger brother of his diamond necklace. The victim went to help his brother and was shot in the chest, and died.
June 6, 2006: Gary, IN
A 21-year-old male was shot and killed in a high school parking lot during a high school graduation ceremony. Two brothers, ages 28 and 18, were arrested. Police indicate that incident stemmed from an ongoing feud between the suspects and victim.
July 12, 2006: Los Angeles, CA
A 16-year-old female was shot and killed about three blocks from her school after 1:00pm. The female reportedly was with a group of friends. Police say the incident may have been gang-related, although the victim was not in a gang. The victim’s brother reportedly told the media that the victim had allegedly warned school police before leaving the school that people had been threatening students in the area with guns.
July 31, 2006: Tampa, FL
A husband and wife were found by a delivery person around 6:20am shot dead outside of a middle school where the woman worked as a cafeteria manager. The female, age 38, and the male, age 54, were found on either side of their vehicle in the parking lot. Police were investigating possible causes including murder-suicide. Grief counseling was offered to staff who reported to the school later in the day.

School-Related Shootings Not Resulting in Deaths
A sample of school-related shootings occurring nationwide in the 2005-2006 school year not resulting in death is listed below. It should be noted that this is only a sample and and is not intended to include all of the many incidents involving firearms confiscated but not used, and other weapons possession or use that occur in U.S. schools. List includes individuals shot but not killed and firearms discharged in schools, on school campuses and buses, at school-sponsored events, to and from school involving students, and as a clear result of school-related incidents/conflicts.

August 3, 2005: Roselawn, Ohio
A security guard said he shot a man who pulled a gun out on him when the guard intervened in an alleged confrontation between the man and a female outside of a charter school. Police were looking for the 52-year-old male suspect, a convicted kidnapper who was out on parole.
August 19, 2005: Morrow, GA
An 18-year-old high school student was shot in the hand and a 22-year-old spectator was shot in the lower back after a male began indiscriminately shooting into a high school football game parking lot crowd around 11:00pm.
August 25, 2005: Dandridge, TN
A gun was discharged in a middle school boys’ student restroom around 9:30am. The school was put into lockdown and police responded. Three male students, two age 12 and the third age 14, were arrested and charged. The males were reportedly handling a handgun when it discharged and struck another student in the leg. Further investigation reveals that the students allegedly had a plot to kill one of their teachers in retaliation for that teacher having earlier disciplined one of the students.
September 2, 2005: Anchorage, AL
A 15-year-old male high school student was arrested and subsequently charged for attempted murder in connection with a shooting in a high school parking lot before a football game. The suspect and three friends, one an ex-boyfriend of a 15-year-old girl, showed up to confront the current boyfriend of the girl and his friends. A fistfight escalated into one individual firing multiple shots in direction of another male. No one was injured. The football game was canceled and a tennis match was interrupted.
September 2, 2005: Jacksonville, FL
A 17-year-old male high school student was shot in the abdomen, allegedly by a 21-year-old non-student suspect, in the school’s driveway near the front of the school at dismissal. Witnesses said they heard four or five shots just before the victim fell to the ground. The incident occurred as the school dismissed early around 12:50pm. About 40 to 50 students fled the area screaming, according to reports. The victim’s mother later reportedly stated that the incident involved a misunderstanding over the victim’s girlfriend. Police reportedly had said that the victim had been specifically targeted by the shooter.
September 9, 2005: Racine, WI
Two high school students were shot on the street just west of the main entrance to the field were a high school football game was played. Both were treated for superficial injuries.
September 9, 2005: Edmond, OK
A 17-year-old male high school band member was arrested for firing a gun in the high school parking lot following a football game. The male reportedly got into an altercation with a group of people in the parking lot and fired one shot in the air.
September 13, 2005: Chicago, IL
A 15-year-old male high school student was arrested for allegedly shooting another 15-year-old male high school in the leg while the two were in a hallway outside of the school’s gym around 2:20pm. The victim reportedly fled the building and flagged down a police car. Meanwhile, a police officer at the school arrested the suspect and recovered the gun. The suspect reportedly got through the school’s metal detectors with the weapon.
September 15, 2005: New York, NY
A 10-year-old female elementary school student was shot in the abdomen while walking home from school. An 18-year-old male was also shot in the hip and shoulder. A group of men were reportedly chasing the 18-year-old male and the girl, who was an innocent bystander, was caught in the gunfire.
September 16, 2005: South Salt Lake, UT
A 16-year-old male was arrested in connection with the firing of a pellet gun at a school bus following a high school football game. One individual hit with the gun was treated by paramedics and released at the scene. Police said an argument had occurred between one team’s players and students prior to the shooting, but initial reports were unclear if the shooting was connected to that altercation.
September 17, 2005: Decatur, GA
Two males were shot outside of a high school football game. A 17-year-old male was charged.
September 24, 2005: Saginaw, MI
A 15-year-old high school male was shot in the leg in a drive-by shooting and a 14-year-old female middle school student received a wound to the shoulder around 11:30pm following a homecoming dance at the high school.
September 25, 2005: Los Angeles, CA
An 18-year-old male was shot in the back of his shoulder while watching a children’s football game around 7:15pm at a high school field. Witnesses reported hearing gunfire come from outside of the stadium, according to reports. The victim was in stable condition.
September 29, 2005: Pine Bluff, AR
A 19-year-old male was shot the right thigh while fighting with three males on the street in front of a high school in the early afternoon. The incident occurred on a street that separated the school’s buildings from the student parking lot, according to reports. None of the participants were students, according to statements attributed to the school’s superintendent.
October 3, 2005: Baltimore, MD
A 17-year-old male high school student was shot in the head as he returned to school campus after cutting class and going to a convenience store around 11:34am.
October 4, 2005: Charleston, SC
Three shots were fired into the air during a fight involving approximately 20 individuals, believed to be high school aged youth, in a parking lot outside of a middle school football game around 7:45pm.
October 9, 2005: North Las Vegas, NV
Two people were shot around 9:30pm at an intersection in front of a high school following a high school football game. The victims reportedly had non-life threatening injuries.
October 11, 2005: Farmington, MO
A 17-year-old male high school student brought a shotgun to school, assembled it in the boys’ restroom, put a black cloth with two eyeholes over his head, and fired one shot into the ceiling. The school was locked down. The principal and a teacher convinced the male, who was described as “mentally challenged,” to give up the gun. No one was hurt.
October 14, 2005: New York, NY
A 16-year-old male high school student was reportedly shot by one unidentified suspect, who was accompanied by six others, about 90 feet from the side entrance to his high school school around 9:00am.
October 18, 2005: Salisbury, NC
A school bus carrying a football team was caught in the crossfire of two cars shooting at each other. The bus was struck by a bullet but none of the students on board were injured.
October 19, 2005: San Bernadino, CA
A male high school student was shot as his mother dropped him off in front of his high school. The gunman fled in a van. The victim received stitches for a leg wound.
October 19, 2005: Camden, NJ
A 16-year-old high school student was shot and the bullet struck his spinal cord, leaving him in critical condition. The shooting occurred after school around 3:20pm across the street from a middle school, which is about a block away from the high school. The incident reportedly stemmed from a fight the prior Friday at a skating facility.
October 20, 2005: Saginaw, MI
A 15-year-old male student allegedly opened fire in a high school cafeteria, shooting another 15-year-old male student. The victim was reportedly hit in the chest by at least one gunshot. The school locked down as police and paramedics responded. School officials planned to use a metal detector upon the reopening of school the next day.
October 20, 2005: Virginia Beach, VA
Shots were fired at three school buses outside of a middle school around 3:00pm. Students were locked down for several hours as police and SWAT teams searched the area. Two other nearby schools locked down. The gun was later found to have been a pellet gun. A 17-year-old was subsequently arrested. No one was injured.
October 21, 2005: Nashville, TN
A 16-year-old female was shot in the neck as a innocent victim of a shooting across the street from a high school just before 3:00pm. School resource officers quickly responded, according to reports.
October 28, 2005: Philadelphia, PA
A 17-year-old male high school student was shot and received an injury to his hip in a shooting across the street from his high school around 8:00am. Police were reportedly investigating if the incident was drug-related.
October 28, 2005: Annapolis, MD
A 17-year-old female was shot in the thigh while near a concession stand at a high school football game around 8:30pm. Police said two people were taken into custody near the school and the handgun was recovered.
November 2, 2005: Birmingham, AL
Six teenagers, including three high school students, were injured in a drive-by shooting about two blocks from the high school just before 4:00pm. Two females and four males, all 16 or 17 years old, were treated and released from a local hospital. Police were reportedly getting no cooperation from victims and witnesses, and had no suspects.
November 3, 2005: North Las Vegas, NV
A school bus driver was reportedly injured when someone fired four shots at a school bus carrying 41 middle school students. No students were injured.
November 8, 2005: Jacksboro, TN
A 15-year-old male high school freshman shot the principal and assistant principal at his school. He also shot and killed another assistant principal.
November 8, 2005: Lake Worth, FL
A school police officer fired shots at a stolen pick-up truck that rammed into his golf cart and injured him, and then drove toward him and administrators, around 4:00pm outside of the school. Three former students were reportedly in the car. A 15-year-old driver was among those subsequently arrested.
November 15, 2005: Miramar, FL
A 17-year-old female allegedly shot another 17-year-old female student in the upper chest after an argument on a school bus around 7:20am. The incident reportedly stemmed from an earlier conflict. Police reported the injuries as non-life threatening.
November 28, 2005: Boston, MA
Gunfire erupted between men in two minivans outside of an elementary school around 1:00pm as about 15 elementary school students were out on the playground for recess. The fifth-grade students ran back into the building screaming. No one was injured.
November 29, 2005: Cleveland, OH
A 14-year-old male student at a K-8 school was arrested by police with a sawed off 12-gauge shotgun in his locker. Police were called for gun shots blocks from the school around 9:18am and a witness pointed police to the suspect, who they tracked to the school and found the weapon upon a search.
November 30, 2005: Columbia, SC
Shots were fired outside of a high school gym after a basketball game. The shots were fired in the air and nobody was injured, although suspects could not be identified.
December 2, 2005: Baltimore, MD
A 14-year-old female high school student was shot in the leg while walking home in an alley about two blocks from her school around noon. Police report that the student came upon two men fighting, one male pulled a gun and began firing, and the girl was shot in the calf.
December 5, 2005: Boston, MA
A 17-year-old male student was arrested in connection with shots that were fired during an altercation between two males in a restroom of a city charter school around 2:20pm. No one was injured.
December 5, 2005: Detroit, MI
An 18-year-old male was arrested after two 14-year-olds were injured when shots were fired in a crowd at a high school. A 14-year-old girl was shot in her shin and a 14-year-old male was shot in the leg. The suspect was charged with nine counts of attempted murder.
December 6, 2005: Detroit, MI
Eight to ten males ran into a high school and pepper sprayed students after a student opened a door for a former student the group was chasing. The suspects reportedly also shot the male former student.
December 8, 2005: Las Vegas, NV
A 16-year-old high school student was shot in the leg in what was reportedly a conflict between about 20 Hispanic and African-American students across the street from a high school around 2:00pm.
December 9, 2005: Houston, TX
A high school basketball coach was shot in the head when a gunman fired four shots at the team’s bus as they departed a high school where they had played a game around 10:15pm.
December 16, 2005: Elmont, NY
An 8th-grade male student was shot twice with a pellet gun, grazing his head, after he chased two males behind a junior/senior high bleachers after one swiped his electronic game.
December 17, 2005: East Point, GA
A 15-year-old male high school student was shot in the chest and right arm after he reportedly got into an argument after a high school basketball game around 10:30pm in a high school parking lot.
December 20, 2005: Lorain, OH
Two high school male students, ages 15 and 16, were shot three blocks away from the school after leaving a high school basketball game. One was shot in the face and the other was shot in the hand. Both males reportedly had been at the game but were asked to leave, according to a school’s spokesperson. The two came running back into the gym around 9:15pm, according to reports, to tell police they had been shot.
December 21, 2005: Indianapolis, IN
Shots were fired outside of a high school gym around 9:30pm as spectators exited a high school basketball game. Police searched the area but found no suspects. However, four shell casings were found on the high school parking lot about 15 minutes after the shots were fired.
January 3, 2006: Jersey City, NJ
A 10th-grade female student was shot in the buttocks and an 11th-grade male student was shot in the right arm as gunfire erupted during a large fight involving over 40 people outside of a high school around 3:20pm at the school’s dismissal. Both victims were taken to the hospital and were reportedly in good condition.
January 5, 2006: Bethelem, PA
Two 17-year-old high school students were arrested and charged in connection with one of the males allegedly shooting another 17-year-old male student in the eye with a pellet gun. One suspect was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and reckless endangerment and the other was charged with conspiracy to commit those crimes. Both suspects were also charged with possession of a weapon on school property and use of an air rifle.
January 5, 2006: Boiling Springs, PA
A 25-year-old male was shot by a state trooper after he and two other males bailed from a car seen driven from an elementary school where a burglar alarm was activated, and then the 25-year-old attempted to get into the police cruiser and flee the area. The three individuals were reportedly being considered as suspects in a string of elementary school burglaries. Computers and electronic equipment were reportedly observed in the car.
January 10, 2006: St. Paul, MN
A 17-year-old male was shot around 8:15pm about two blocks from the school following a large fight that broke out at a high school basketball game.
January 10, 2006: Wilmington, DE
A 16-year-old male was shot while in the parking lot of a high school between basketball games.
January 12, 2006: Chicago, IL
A 17-year-old female high school student, along with two male students, were grazed by a shotgun blast from a car that pulled up to them while awaiting a bus about 20 minutes after school let out. The female student reportedly suffered abrasions on her nose, while one of the two males suffered a graze to the shoulder and the other male suffered an eye injury. Police believe the incident may have been related to a gang incident in the area.
January 13, 2006: Detroit, MI
A student fired at least two shots outside of a city high school around noon. School police found and arrested the student while enroute to his home, although they did not initially recover the weapon.
January 17, 2006: Detroit, MI
A 17-year-old male was shot in a drive-by shooting outside of a high school around 5:30pm while a basketball game was going on inside.
January 19, 2006: Chesapeake, VA
A 19-year-old male was arrested in connection with a shooting in the parking lot of a high school around 11:00am. The suspect reportedly shot at a student standing outside of the cafeteria. No one was injured.
January 23, 2006: Vacaville, CA
A 14-year-old male high school student was arrested and charged for bringing a gun to the school after it accidentally discharged near the school gym. The bullet struck a concrete sidewalk in the area of the gym and a fragment injured a 15-year-old female student.
January 24, 2006: Foothill Farms, CA
Two young unidentified males were fighting in front of a high school after a basketball game around 8:30pm. Students nearby ran back to the gym and the gym was locked down, according to reports.
January 24, 2006: West Goshen, PA
A 21-year-old male was arrested and charged for shooting a semi-automatic gun in the air while in the parking lot of a high school following a basketball game. Four spent rounds from a .40-caliber gun were found in the lot. About 40 people were in the lot at the time. No one was injured.
January 24, 2006: Portland, OR
Two adult females, ages 23 and 22, were unintended victims of glass shattered by gunfire when a 17-year-old was firing at another car in a gang-related shooting outside of a high school basketball game around 8:00pm.
January 31, 2006: Chicago, IL
Two high-school freshman and one sophomore, all age 16, were shot during an incident at a convenience store across from their high school around 7:50am. One victim was reportedly found on the grass at the school and others were in the immediate area, all three of which were then taken to the hospital. Police later said the incident may have occurred due to individuals spraying gang graffiti on a wall prior to the shooting. One victim was shot in the head, the second victim had graze wounds to the head and neck, and the third victim was shot in the leg.
February 1, 2006: Temple Hills, MD
Two shots were fired at a high school bus around 2:50pm. The driver pushed one sophomore and one former male student off the bus after a fight broke out. One of the males pulled a gun and fired two shots, one hitting the side of the bus and the other hitting the window. No one was injured.
February 3, 2006: Compton, CA

A 13-year-old male elementary school student accidentally discharged a firearm while showing it to a 12-year-old female student when their teacher stepped out of the classroom, shooting the girl in the toe. The male was taken into custody and the female was treated for a minor injury, according to reports.

A 27-year-old male, later arrested on March 10th, allegedly chased the 26-year-old ex-boyfriend of his girlfriend across elementary school grounds while firing two shots at the male. The male being chased pounded on the door of a school bus, which was dropping off children at the school. The driver opened the door, the 26-year-old male boarded the bus (which reportedly had 17 children on board), and the male directed the driver to “go, go, go” from the area. The male reportedly dropped down on his stomach in the bus. The 27-year-old male reportedly fired two additional shots. The driver called his dispatch center and police met the bus at another location.

Six students were arrested after six police officers responded to a call from a school bus driver for fights aboard her bus around 8:15am. Two officers initially arrived and then called for additional police after a female student allegedly assaulted an officer removing her and other student from the bus. Police reportedly used pepper spray and a Taser to subdue what was described as a melee.
November 2, 2005: Waco, TX
A school police officer was struck by a car driven by the mother of a student school police arrested for marijuana possession. The officer reportedly was trying to keep the mother and student from leaving after an argument ensued when the mother came to the school. The officer received minor injuries when struck by the car, according to reports.

A 14-year-old male eighth-grader was stabbed in the chest and his heart was nicked during a fight with a 13-year-old male fellow student in their middle school class. The suspect reportedly used a pair of scissors in the assault.

An elementary school was locked down after a police officer saw a man wearing a mask and carrying what appeared to be a long gun trying to open the school’s front door. A search of the area by police was unable to find the person. No students were harmed.

Police bomb squad members searched the locker of a 15-year-old high school student after parents notified police over the weekend of journal writings about being a suicide bomber and injecting individuals with mercury, according to reports. Mercury was found in the student’s home and gunpowder was reported missing from his grandfather. The school was locked down for about an hour and a half, while the section of the building where the locker was located was evacuated.

A teacher discovered the stabbing victim and then saw the suspect holding the knife, according to reports, and directed the student to drop the knife, which she did. Teachers secured the weapon and the suspect.

Two male former high school students, ages 15 and 17, were arrested for plotting a Columbine-like attack upon their former high school on Valentine’s Day. A search of their homes found knives, ammunition, a gas mask, and bomb-making instructions from the Internet. A student reported the planned incident to school officials. The suspects had been transferred to other schools for disciplinary purposes prior to the arrests for this incident.

A school bus driver found a lunchbox with what appeared to be a walkie-talkie and battery attached to a clay substance with wires on his bus after a noon bus run. Police bomb squad officials responded. The device was found to be fake.

A 12-year-old middle school student was arrested for allegedly stabbing a 13-year-old fellow student in the elbow with a steak knife at their bus stop.
January 6, 2006: Oakland, CA
A 17-year-old male high school student was stabbed in the leg around 1:15pm near the campus by suspected gang members. About 10 suspects surrounded him. A police sergeant driving by spotted the incident and called for assistance as four suspects fled the area in a vehicle. The police pursued the car and the suspects were arrested.
January 6, 2006: Sacramento, CA
A 24-year-old male fugitive, who escaped from police, was shot and killed after he attempted to car-jack several vehicles during his escape, including a school bus. The school bus driver was credited with potentially saving the lives of the students after he held the bus door closed and refused to let the suspect inside. The fugitive went on to get behind the wheel of a patrol car to escape, but was shot by a deputy.

A 17-year-old male high school student was stabbed in the stomach during an altercation with a 16-year-old male high school student two blocks from the high school. The fight reportedly stemmed from an earlier fight. A group of out-of-state construction workers witnessed the incident and chased the suspect.

An Arab male high school student was stabbed during an altercation with an 18-year-old Puerto Rican male and others on the way home from a city high school around 2:00pm. The victim fled back to the school. The 18-year-old was subsequently identified and arrested. Reports later indicated that there were tensions in the school between Latino and Arab students.

Two school police officers disarmed a 17-year-old male high school student in a hallway outside the school cafeteria after the male became combative. The student was wanted on a warrant for groping five female students in the school. The male reportedly reached for a .22-caliber handgun as the officers were escorting him down the hallway. No one was injured.

She took the bus keys and called police. The male was found and had a plastic toy gun in his possession.

A large brawl broke out at a high school basketball game after two school employees got into an argument over whether a student could perform in a dance at the game. Six people were ticketed, including a 17-year-old girl who was arrested. Two teen girls and a police officer were injured during the fights.

Four high school students, two age 17 and two age 18, were arrested in connection with the planting and exploding of homemade bottle bombs at the home of a school administrative assistant.

Four teenagers, ages 14 to 16, were arrested and charged in connection with a plot to kill 25 people in their high school lunchroom on the anniversary of the Columbine attack. Students reported the information to school administrators, who notified police.
April 5, 2006: Buna, TX
A high school student wrote a 10-name list of “people to kill” on an athletic field house restroom wall. No weapons were found and no one was injured. The student was later arrested.
April 7, 2006: Pierce County, WA
Three male middle school students, ages 12, 13, and 14, were arrested in connection with a plot where they planned to steal guns, force their school into a lockdown, set fire to the school, and kill an administrator, group of teachers, and “preppy” students. They then planned to blend in with the other students to escape the building and avoid police, with a back-up plan involving stealing a teacher’s car to get away. Police were seeking a 14-year-old female who may also have been involved in the plot.
April 11, 2006: Pinellas Park, FL
Three middle school students, ages 13, 14, and 15, were arrested in connection with a plot to explode acid bombs in an administrative building, in a locker, and by a bus stop. The students had reportedly been expelled from that school.
April 12, 2006: Joliet, IL
A total of 14 people, including 8 students in a Catholic academy, were arrested and charged in connection with a teenage drug ring following a four-month undercover police investigation involving cocaine, heroin and ecstasy.
April 17, 2006: Platte City, MO
Two male students, both age 18, were arrested in connection with a school shooting plot which targeted an assistant principal, students, and other faculty members. The principal reported the incident after the suspects told other students about their plan, which included planting explosives and bringing weapons to the school on the seventh anniversary of the Columbine shooting.
April 19, 2006: Kuna, ID
A 16-year-old male high school student was arrested and confessed to writing a threatening message of violence at the school on a bathroom wall.
April 20, 2006: Montpelier, OH
Attendance was down about 70 percent at a rural high school where a high school student reportedly had made comments the day before about guns being brought to school and people being shot on the Columbine anniversary. The student was removed from the school but charges were not filed because the comments were not specific, according to reports.
April 20, 2006: Killeen, TX
A female high school student was stabbed in the leg during a fight with another student around 1:30pm.
April 20, 2006: Riverton, KS
Five male high school students, ages 16 to 18, were arrested in connection with a plot to disable the school’s camera system and commit a shooting rampage at the school been noon and 1:00pm on April 20th, the seventh anniversary of Columbine. A threat related to the plot was discovered on Myspace.com and a North Carolina woman who chatted with a suspect online notified police in her state, who contacted the sheriff in the suspects’ county. Police reportedly found guns, ammunition, knives, and coded messages in the bedroom of one suspect, and papers about firearms and Armageddon in two students’ lockers.
April 22, 2006: North Pole, AK
Six students were arrested in connection with a reportedly elaborate plot by a group of seventh-graders to shut off power and phone service at their school, and to kill students and faculty members with guns and knives before escaping their small town of about 1,600 people. A parent reportedly notified police of the planned attack.
April 24, 2006: Metropolis, IL
A county high school was searched by police after a student told the principal that two students were overhead talking about a Columbine-like school shooting on the anniversary of Columbine.
April 24, 2006: Puyallup, WA
A 16-year-old male high school student was charged for allegedly plotting to randomly shoot people in his school and then kill himself. Police report the male was planning to bring a .22-caliber rifle and a handgun with 15 rounds to “take people out” and “save the last round for himself”. Police reportedly searched the boy’s house on April 23rd and found two rifles, two handguns, ammunition, a homemade bomb, and a CD copy of “The Anarchist Cookbook”.
April 24, 2006: Chapel Hill, NC
A 17-year-old male armed with a shotgun allegedly held a teacher and 16-year-old female student hostage for over an hour in a classroom after school around 4:45pm. Two shots were fired at a window, but the suspect let the two go without injury. The suspect was taken into custody and subsequently charged.
April 25, 2006: South Plainfield, NJ
A fight between two female students escalated into a brawl with over a dozen women, resulting in the arrest of four individuals outside of a high school. An assistant principal who attempted to break up the fight was struck in the back of the head, possibly with an object, and was hospitalized. The incident occurred around 2:15pm.
April 25, 2006: Red Lake, MN
Extra security was provided and a ninth-grader was reportedly taken into custody amid rumors that a group of students planned an assault upon the school, which was the scene of a school shooting over a year prior.
April 26, 2006: San Leandro, CA
Ten students and two non-students were arrested in connection with fights in the lunchroom and after school. Some of the fights appeared racially motivated between Latino and black students, according to police.
April 26, 2006: Montville, CT
A 17-year-old male high school student was stabbed four times on a platform outside of the school during a fight that continued after having started on a school bus. The victim suffered a punctured kidney and colon.
April 27, 2006: Morrow, GA
A total of 18 current and former students were arrested at a high school followed an initial fight involving 13 females outside the school’s vocational building.
April 27, 2006: Pittsburgh, PA
A 22-year-old male who was shot leaving a convenience store around 10:10am entered a back door at an elementary school as students were coming back inside from recess, and collapsed onto a small play table in front of preschoolers.
April 28, 2006: Newhall, CA
As many as 50 students were reportedly involved in a racial brawl that resulted in the school being locked down and then later evacuated, with four persons being arrested for failing to disperse. The incident reportedly stemmed from a fight the prior day.
April 28, 2006: Lakeland, FL
An 18-year-old male high school student at a Christian school was arrested after a posting on MySpace.com reportedly referred to a countdown before the male allegedly was going to blow up the school. Police reportedly found brass knuckles and a knife when they searched him at the school, and two more knives and a pipe with marijuana residue was reportedly found in his car.
May 2, 2006: Jacksonville, FL
A middle school male special needs student was arrested and police came near to using a Taser to subdue him after he assaulted several students, kicked a window out of the back of the bus, and kicked out the windshield of the bus.
May 3, 2006: Charleston, WV
A male high school student was stabbed in the chest and arm, reportedly by another male student, after the two exited a school bus at a drop-off around 3:35pm.
May 5, 2006: Detroit, MI
Four teens beat and stabbed a male high school student after he opened up a side door and let them into the school. The suspects then fled the area. As police pulled up to the area, they found four male teens around a car, in which they subsequently found a loaded shotgun. All four were arrested. It was unclear at the time of the report if the arrested males were the same individuals who beat and stabbed the student.
May 10, 2006: Westfall Township, PA
A 17-year-old male high school student was arrested for spray-painting on the back of a restroom stall door a threat to blow up the school.
May 12, 2006: Vista, CA
Three youths were stabbed in a gang fight near a high school around 3:30pm. Police were called to the area, but the fighters fled. Police found one injured male on scene and another was driven to an area hospital. The third victim went into the school to the nurse’s office.
May 12, 2006: Fayetteville, NC
An elementary school was put on lockdown around 11:00am after police responded to a call for three adults in the building who may have been armed. The subjects were located by police. No weapons were found, but one subject was arrested on a pending warrant. Reports indicate one of the males was chased into the school by another who indicated the one individual had broken into his home earlier in the week.
May 16, 2006: Miami, FL
A high school security monitor was stabbed in the arm while trying to break up a fight involving five girls. Four girls reportedly had approached another girl in the hall, one pulled a razor blade and slashed the other in the face. The girl reportedly grabbed a knife from her backpack and began swinging at her assailants, during which time the security monitor attempted to intervene and was stabbed in the forearm.
May 17, 2006: Ft. Wayne, IN
A city high school was locked down after the school’s police officer found a 17-year-old female student lying on the floor stabbed outside of a school restroom. The victim reportedly received a superficial puncture above her waist from a steak knife. A 16-year-old female was subsequently arrested.
May 17, 2006: Pleasanton, TX
A 13-year-old male middle school student was stabbed in the chest during an altercation while walking home from the school. Reports indicate the victim had been fighting with a sixth-grade student who went to a car, came back with a knife, and stabbed the victim.
May 19, 2006: Tampa, FL
Two Saudi men, ages 23, and 20, were arrested for boarding a school bus taking students to a high school. A substitute driver was alerted by students and a deputy arrested the males upon their arrival at the high school. The males reportedly lied at first about their original, claiming to be from Morocco.
May 22, 2006: Oxford, MI
A high school was evacuated and searched for bombs after police found 16 homemade bombs, a “napalm substance,” shotgun shells, and blueprints of the high school at the home of a 16-year-old male student from the school. Police first learned of the items while questioning the male about an arson fire that destroyed a school district maintenance garage on May 14th, causing $250,000 in damages. No specific threats had been made against the school.
May 22, 2006: Fairburn, GA
A 9th-grade male student at a private school was arrested and charged for bringing a homemade explosive device to school and placing it under the bleachers. The male reportedly indicated he did it as a joke. Police indicated it was unlikely the device could have caused serious damage.
May 23, 2006: Port St. John, FL
Eight recently graduated seniors stormed into a high school cafeteria wearing dark clothing, and either Halloween masks or stockings on their heads, and firing squirt guns. All were arrested and charged.
May 24, 2006: Baltimore, MD
A 12-year-old female student was reportedly stabbed by a 10-year-old female classmate during an altercation in a hallway around 7:40am. The knife was a steak knife with a blade around 6 inches long. The victim was wounded in the left arm, shoulder, and upper-chest. The suspect was arrested and charged. Both students are in 4th-grade in a combined elementary/middle school.
May 23, 2006: Portage, IN
Six female high school students were reportedly arrested and charged in connection with a fight in the school’s cafeteria in which a school assistant athletic director was injured while trying to break it up.
May 24, 2006: Cleveland, OH
An 18-year-old female high school senior allegedly held a female physical education teacher hostage in a gym office for about 45 minutes around 11:00am. The student reportedly went to see the teacher to get the teacher to give her a passing grade, despite a conference with school administrators, the student, and her parent the day before where it was determined the teacher would not do so. The teacher attempted to end the conference with the student and walk out of the office, at which time the student reportedly physically blocked the door and “chest butted” the teacher when she tried to leave. The teacher reportedly called the office for help, but no one answered, and the student allegedly took the teacher’s cell phone. The teacher was able to break out when a teacher’s aide came to the door and the student cracked the door open.
May 24, 2006: Lawrenceville, GA
Seventeen laptop computers were stolen from an elementary school. The 17 were among a total of 50 laptops stolen from trailers stolen at 20 district schools. Additionally, other items including 16 graphing calculators, 15 printers, 6 projectors, 3 scanners, a digital camera, a CD player, a television set, and other items were also taken from the schools.
May 25, 2006: Northampton, PA
A high school with around 2,000 students was evacuated and police searched the building after an 18-year-old male student brought a rifle to school in a guitar case, and sit with it on his lap while smoking and listening to music in an unused stairwell around 7:40am. The male also reportedly had a hunting knife, box cutter, bottle rockets, and smoke bombs with him. He was reportedly distraught over a break-up with a girlfriend. Police and the principal talked with the male for about 40 minutes before he surrendered and was taken for a psychological evaluation, with likely criminal charges pending.
May 25, 2006: Philadelphia, PA
Eight high school students were suspended and the remainder of the 1,600 students were sent home early after fighting broke out during an evacuation due to a locker fire. Six students were reportedly charged with inciting a riot and two were charged with assault and disorderly conduct.
June 6, 2006: Indianapolis, IN
A police officer was attacked by a group of people at a high school graduation ceremony while he was trying to arrest a woman who had been evicted due to yelling and screaming, and then tried to reenter the school.
June 8, 2006: Walled Lake, MI
A 17-year-old Advanced Placement chemistry student allegedly made suspected TNT as a final project for his class. Police were called, a bomb squad removed and detonated the device. The student had reportedly told the teacher he was going to do this but the teacher allegedly did not take him seriously.
June 10, 2006: Bristol, PA
An 18-year-old male high school senior was not allowed to attend his graduation ceremony due to credible gang-related death threats against him. Nearly 4,000 people were expected to attend the graduation ceremony at a school stadium where metal detectors were used to scan attendees. The male’s sister reportedly had been in a car used in a drive-by shooting where an individual was killed. The male himself was reportedly in an unrelated incident where a friend in a car with him was shot and paralyzed. The male’s speech was transmitted via video for the ceremony.
June 14, 2006: Burke, VA
Two males, ages 16 and 17, were stabbed in their upper body. One male was found on the steps of the school and the second walked into a hospital.
July 14, 2006: Nashville, TN
A 16-year-old was taken into custody for stabbing a 17-year-old male around 7:00am at their high school summer school session.
